The TQM project in training institutions began on a pilot basis in 1997.
In this project, it was envisaged that the principles of Total Quality
Management which are widely used in industry and in the service sector
could be applied in a training environment in administrative training institutes.
It was envisaged that this would lead to an improvement both in the quality
of training programmes being conducted in these institutes and also in
the attitudes of the employees of the institutes towards their work. The
project is sponsored by the Department of Personnel & Training, Govt.
of India and funded by the Department for International development, UK
and the British Council Division, UK.
